History of Tobyhanna!

Your Personal Pocono Mountain Guide and Blogger here to tell you a little bit about beautiful Tobyhanna Pennsylvania. From about 1900 to 1936, Tobyhanna lakes were the site of active ice industries. The ice was cut from the lakes during the winter and stored in large barn-like structures. During the rest of the year, the ice was added to railroad boxcars hauling fresh produce and meats destined for East Coast cities. In 1912, Tobyhanna made a  railroad station , telegraph, and post office, and so the federal government acquired land within Tobyhanna that became the Tobyhanna Military Reservation, later Tobyhanna Army Depot , which was used as an Artillery training ground.

Tobyhanna is now home to many who migrated here from the Philadelphia and New York City metropolitan areas. There are fun things to do in this quiet tight knit town of Tobyhanna. Many restaurants, bars, movie theatre, and of course the Tobyhanna State Park call this area home. Homes are for sale at fantastic prices, and there are many private communities with many amenities including pools, beaches, fishing, and clubhouses. Helping you find your dream home in the Poconos is my specialty and pleasure in doing so with friendly face and with todays technology and old fashion service.

Time For a Vacation Home? I'm Your Guy

If you’re considering a second home purchase, where do you start?Consider your personal tastes, interests, and hobbies when you’re choosing a second home. For example, if you’re the type of person who thinks anything over a two-hour ride is long, you’ll have a fairly small geographic area in which to conduct your search.  If you plan to use your second home for a couple of vacations every year and long holiday weekends, then you can extend your search to a larger radius. Many second homeowners purchase properties in their favorite vacation spots because they already enjoy the area and want to spend more time there.

Prices can vary greatly. Up and coming communities are less expensive than established vacation hotspots which have seen explosive appreciation. Prices in these popular areas range from a home on the beach worth $1 million to the same-sized home a mile down the road worth half that price. Check current mortgage rates to get an idea of what your monthly payment might be. Don’t shy from jumping in the car and spending weekends looking for different vacation homes.

Is your dream vacation home near the lake or on the lake? Do you want to water ski on that lake? Or do you seek a quieter spot to kayak or fish? Or is the lake in the mountains so you can combine winter and summer sports? Is it in an area that is a plane ride away, but one in which you hope to retire? This part of the process will take some time, but you can easily find the prices of second homes in your desired area without leaving your computer.

The Pocono Mountains is a beautiful place to vacation for so many endless reasons. Fun for all four seasons all year round in the Pocono Mountain. What's your thing?

Skiing,Snowboarding,Tubing,Fishing,Hiking,Boating,Hunting, take your pick!

Hiking Bradys Lake Anyone? A Simple and Colorful Trail for the Beginner This Fall!

Brady’s Lake was built for the ice industry in the early 1890s. Ice harvesting continued and was profitable into the 1930s, until the use of electricity and refrigeration became widespread. The area was later acquired by the federal government and became part of the Tobyhanna Military Reservation. The Fish and Game Commission acquired Brady’s Lake in 1949; the lake is located within State Game Lands 127. Interesting features: Quiet, peaceful lake (electric motors only); old railroad grade. Surface: Rocky woods road, railroad grade.
