Communities That Make the Poconos Special!

The Pocono Mountain area is very large but so beautiful in every shape and form. It may be hard for those who are not from the Pocono Mountains to gather an idea of what it's like here. It is shaped into communities built mostly nestled in the beautiful woods and Pocono forests. Some on lakes, some backed up to the Pennsylvania State Gamelands, and some are perfectly fit in the quiet towns built into Pocono Log Cabin Homes. Some communities are gated, but all give you your privacy being built around the quiet woods full of nature and wild life including deer, wild turkey, chipmunks, foxes, turtles, and black bear. The Pocono Mountains is solely located in Monroe County, and it's the quickest rising population in the state of Pennsylvania. The communities also have many amenities including pools, beaches, boating, ice skating, fishing, and much more. To say the least, the Pocono Mountains is the place to be and is perfect to raise a family in, or it's perfect for a Pocono Getaway Dream that will stay with you forever.

Pocono Mountain Communities including but not limited to- Arrowhead Lakes, Locust Lake Village, Big Bass Lake, Jack Frost Mountain. Big Boulder, Indian Mountain Lakes, Brier Crest Woods, and so many more! There are just too many to list!

Fall Foliage in the Poconos is the Best Time to be in the Poconos!

Thank you for visiting my Fall Foliage blog and updates on the beautiful scenery that fall time brings to the Pocono Mountains. Home to more than 127 varieties of trees, shrubs and plants, the Pocono Mountains is truly a spectacular sight during the fall season. Because the region stretches for 2,400 square miles, three distinct color zones are present allowing you to catch peak colors not only once, but three times!

Northern:  Full color now can be seen throughout Wayne County! Red Maples have turned a bright red and sassafras and black gum trees are now vibrantly displaying their bright red and orange colors. The aspen and birch are at their full yellow shades. Full Color is at 100%. Peak colors are occurring now and are expected to last at least a week or so depending upon the weather.

Central:  Most of the trees in northern Monroe and southern Pike Counties should be in full color this week. However, the trees in southern Monroe should be in full color by next week. Oaks, red maple, sumac, black gum, dogwood, and serviceberry are mostly red and orange, while birch, ash, tulip poplar, sugar maple, aspen, hickory, walnut, and sycamore are turning mostly yellow and orange. Most trees in this region are currently showing their brilliant hues. Full color is at 75% and peak color is expected on October 17.

Southern:  Although fall coloration is moving forward and most of the tree species have yellow, red and russet leaves, the oaks are still mostly green. The maples are displaying yellow and red leaves, while birches are yellow and gum trees are showing deep reds. Full color is at 40% and peak color is expected on October

Fall foliage in the Poconos - A Leaf Peepers Paradise!

Northern: (Northern Pike and Wayne Counties) In this location, there is some change in color, and leaves are beginning to fall. White ash trees, which are expected to change their color fairly early in the season, have started to lose their leaves. The projected date for peak color is October 8.

Central: (Southern Wayne and Pike and Northern Monroe Counties) This region is only showing minor color change but expect the red maple trees, in wet areas, to be the first to change. Full color is at 1%. The projected date for peak color is October 17.

Southern: (Southern Monroe and Carbon Counties) Although fall has only just begun, we are already seeing fall coloration in this area. Across the landscape, the forest is turning a range of green shades from species of oak trees, as well as a yellow from the leaves of the ash, aspen and birch trees. Look for the red maples changing to a brilliant red, as tulip trees will display warm yellows. Full color is currently less than 10%. October 12 is the projected date for peak color.

Hiking Bradys Lake Anyone? A Simple and Colorful Trail for the Beginner This Fall!

Brady’s Lake was built for the ice industry in the early 1890s. Ice harvesting continued and was profitable into the 1930s, until the use of electricity and refrigeration became widespread. The area was later acquired by the federal government and became part of the Tobyhanna Military Reservation. The Fish and Game Commission acquired Brady’s Lake in 1949; the lake is located within State Game Lands 127. Interesting features: Quiet, peaceful lake (electric motors only); old railroad grade. Surface: Rocky woods road, railroad grade.
